Extractions
Dr. Ike, Dr. Brittany, and Dr. Reuben believe in restoring original teeth and keeping them as long as possible. Sometimes, however, a tooth can be so broken down, or the prognosis so poor, that we resort to removing teeth. In addition, retained primary (baby) teeth may need to be removed to allow permanent teeth to erupt properly.
Each doctor strives to achieve profound anesthesia, and can remove teeth both non-surgically and surgically. Whether the tooth is surgical or not is dependent on the root structure of the tooth that is needing removal. A diagnosis is required before removal of a tooth can be completed. This includes an initial visit to take an x-ray to visualize the root system. This helps us to effectively plan an extraction for our valued patients. For this reason, we recommend that patients not wait until a tooth is hurting them to come in for evaluation. Pain can be prevented and issues resolved before they even occur, aiding in a smooth surgery.
Losing a part of one's body can be traumatic. We strive to create a calm, relaxing environment that patients can feel comfortable in. We offer nitrous oxide to aid in relaxation techniques for fearful patients, but most patients are able to tolerate the procedure without any aid - other than our great conversation!
All doctors are very proficient at removing teeth, and are happy to answer any questions you might have about tooth removal. They will present you with options for restoration after removal, including Implants, Partial Dentures, Dentures, or whether it would be smarter to restore the tooth instead of replacing it.
